We travel through the Egyptian countryside to Abydos, where we visit the temple of Seti I. Seti started the temple, but died before it was finished, and it was completed by his son, Rameses II. It is unique in that it is dedicated to 7 gods, including Seti himself. The artwork and reliefs are of the highest quality. After our visit to Abydos, we travel south to Dendera, a mainly Greco-Roman temple, built on the site of older temples. It has an impressive collection of buildings within its walls - two birth houses, one Roman, one from pharaonic times and the remains of a Coptic church. At present, much restoration is being carried out to restore the colours on the walls and ceilings. On the roof, is a chapel containing a replica of the famous Dendera Zodiac, the original being in the Louvre. After visiting the temple, we drive back to Luxor, where we will take you to your hotel. |
