After being picked up at your hotel, you will visit Luxor Temple with its gigantic statues or Rameses II, and the magnificent Sun Court, built by Amenhotep III. The temple was used as an administrative and military centre by the Romans, and recently wall paintings commemorating the visit of an emperor have been restored. After lunch at a local restaurant, we travel to Karnak, which once was connected by an avenue of sphinxes with Luxor Temple. Karnak is the largest religious site in the world, and is rightly renowned for its awe-inspiring hypostyle hall, started by Seti I and completed by Rameses II. Obelisks of Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis III dominate the next section of the temple, and the festival hall of Tuthmosis III is yet another major attraction. There is a small cafe, where you can relax with a cool drink before we return you to your hotel. |
